Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-17. We are fully transparent about how JokeBoards works.

Hidden code for the 18+ gate (Easter egg): the code is JOKEBOARDS18. You must still confirm you are 18+ and enter a birth year showing 18+ on the 18+ page. This gate is a friction step, not legal ID verification.

What we collect

• Your joke + category + Original/Collected choice — required to publish a joke.
• Your name — optional. Published only if you approve it.
• Instagram handle — optional. Published only if you approve it, only on detail + Top Contributors, never on floating cards, never on Kids jokes. Format @username, no URL.
• Country — optional, dropdown. Used for country filter.
• Email — optional, except REQUIRED if you mark a joke as Original (for shoutout + future issues). Email is private. It is never published, never in public JSON, never in the GitHub repo, never in the public D1 table.
• Feedback / Report / Removal forms — what you type there, plus Joke ID if you provide it.

Where personal data lives

Personal data (name, Instagram, country, email) lives only in a private Google Sheet that only the site owner and the moderation assistant can access. It is not committed to GitHub, not in jokes.json, not in the public database. A joke card gets name / Instagram / country only when the owner explicitly asks for that joke to publish them.

We do not collect passwords. We do not collect your IP for display. Votes in V2 (Cloudflare D1) store only a device fingerprint hash + joke ID + vote — no name, no email.

Why we collect it

• To publish jokes you submitted, with attribution if you want it.
• To contact Original authors for shoutouts or if there is an issue with their joke (email only).
• To moderate, remove, or fix jokes (Report / Removal forms).
• To rank Top Contributors by approved quality.

How long we keep it

Form responses stay in the private Sheet until you ask for deletion via the Removal Request form, or until the owner deletes them. Published joke text stays on the site until removed via Report / Removal. If a joke is removed, its public card is removed; the Sheet row is marked removed, not kept public.

Your rights — deletion / correction

Use the Removal Request form with the Joke ID (e.g. JK-0042) to request removal of a joke, your name, your Instagram, or your email. We review daily around 9/10pm NPT. If you are the Original author, include the email you used so we can verify you.

Kids safety

We do not knowingly collect email or Instagram from anyone under 13. If a joke is in the Kids category, we never display Instagram, even if provided. If you are under 13, do not submit name, Instagram, or email — submit as Anonymous. If you are 13-17, do not submit Instagram without parental permission.

Ads

We use Google AdSense on clean pages only. Ads are static, clearly labeled “Advertisement”, never floating, never made to look like jokes. The 18+ section has no ads. AdSense may set cookies per Google's policy — see Google's ad privacy policy.

Cookies / local storage

V1 “Love it” heart is saved in your browser's localStorage only (e.g. jb-love-JK-0042). No account, no cross-site tracking by us. AdSense may use cookies as above.

DMCA / copyright

If you believe a joke infringes your rights, use the Removal Request form with the Joke ID and details. We review daily and remove or fix promptly. See Terms for the full takedown process.
